Onyekuru’s switch to the Emirates could yet hit a snag due to work permit issues.

Under guidelines introduced by the Football Association in 2015, players under 21 must have played in 75 per cent of their national team’s matches during the past year, if the country is between 31 and 50 in the FIFA rankings.

Nigeria currently sit 40th in those rankings, but Onyekuru only made his Super Eagles debut last week again Corsica. He is also expected to feature against Togo later today.

So should his move to Arsenal go through as expected, the Gunners would have to make a case to a three-person panel that he should be given a permit due to being an ‘exceptional talent’

For their appeal to be successful, they would need to convince the panel that Onyekuru was of such high calibre that he would ‘contribute significantly to the development of the game’ in England.

Should they fail in their argument, the 19-year-old would have to be sent out on loan - just as Japanese forward Takuma Asano was last year when he joined Stuttgart for the season after his work permit application was refused.

Why am I not suprised. lol

This is a situation Gazedis as Chief Executive should be resolving (without reference to Wenger). Wenger should identify the players he wants and others paid big wages should do the donkey work .

This has been the problem; Arsene has been let down on a lot of transfers. Is it Gazidis......don't know. Something going on. Perhaps Stan won't pay the money.
